Wisconsin Public Land Survey Records

Wisconsin Public Land Survey Records: Original Field Notes and Plat Maps is the perfect companion to the Federal Land Patent Records Site. That is, so long as your ancestors bought federal land in Wisconsin.

Search for your Wisconsin ancestor on the Land Patent site, then head over to the Land Survey Records site to view the original plat map. The field notes sometimes offer details on the quality of the land, such as "Land rather Broken - Soil 1st rate - no Timber."
